Client side architecture

published August 31, 2010

As web applications are getting more web 2.0-ish it is important to build your client side architecture correctly. When you have lots of fancy widgets and desktop-like functionality running on browser,  simple html-javascript-hacking will not work. We are currently refactoring our client side architecture and came up with Slideshare presentation by Nicholas C.  Zakas about Scalable JavaScript Application Architecture.  It has nice concepts that we are considering and it seems to tackle our current issues such as tight coupling, inter-widget-communication and more. I am planning to write in-depth analysis of our architecture and problems that we have had, but meanwhile you should check presentation from Slideshare.

New version of Paikkatietoikkuna.fi released

published June 4, 2010

Yesterday, National Land Survey of Finland released a new version of paikkatietoikkuna.fi. Service contains (amongst other things) a google-maps-like rich internet application built on top of Liferay. This portal relies heavily on JavaScript frameworks such as OpenLayers, Ext JS and JQuery.  There are some important things to consider when building a RIA and I am planning to write a separate blog about it later. In the mean time, go check:
