Updating reading list for LinkedIn

published June 21, 2010

My LinkedIn account now has updated Amazon reading list. Apparently I have read 63 work-related books that I wanted to let people know about (I have browsed more, but I guess first 10-40 pages does not qualify for “read”). It is nice to notice that just by reading books slowly, you will accumulate pretty large amount in couple years. Sad thing is that I do not think IT professionals are generally reading enough. The best way is to learn from the best by hiring them, but since “the best” are not always available, next best thing is to read books written by the best. My method is to trust blindly to amazon customer reviews and concentrate on reading books that have received at least 4 stars. Check out my reading list and suggest me something!

EXT JS, jQTouch and Raphaël joining forces.

published June 18, 2010

This combination sounds very interesting. We are working with Ext JS and I feel strong momentum with HTML 5 applications. New company is called Sencha and they already have HTML 5 based javascript framework built for iOS and Android devices. There is definitely a need for this and frameworks like it will help us to build exciting new applications.

New version of Paikkatietoikkuna.fi released

published June 4, 2010

Yesterday, National Land Survey of Finland released a new version of paikkatietoikkuna.fi. Service contains (amongst other things) a google-maps-like rich internet application built on top of Liferay. This portal relies heavily on JavaScript frameworks such as OpenLayers, Ext JS and JQuery.  There are some important things to consider when building a RIA and I am planning to write a separate blog about it later. In the mean time, go check:
